Giving Back Means ‘Being Part of the Story,’ says Vic Grad Vito Labate

Mar. 06, 2024

“There’s some magic that happens when education and community come together,” says Vito Labate Vic 0T0, president of the AVC, Victoria College’s alumni association. He’s explaining why he’s so proud to be a Vic donor: “I want to be part of the spark that lights up minds and provides a catalyst for change.”

Vito Labate.Vito graduated from Victoria College in 2000 with a BA in English and political science, and went on to complete an MA in English at the University of Toronto in 2001. “I spent formative years of my life studying at Vic and U of T,” he says. “That experience helped me become a critical thinker. It opened my mind to new ideas and possibilities for the life and work experience that awaited.”

He’s now Vice President, Marketing, Global Industries at Capgemini, one of the world’s biggest technology services and consulting firms. There, he’s led marketing and communications programs for clients across North America, Europe and Asia. “I attribute much of my personal and professional success to the experiences I had as a student at Vic and U of T,” Vito reflects. “For me, giving back is an opportunity to help new generations of students access these experiences—and a way to invest in the collective power of Victoria College to create positive change.”

That power will be even mightier on the upcoming University of Toronto Giving Day, happening on Tuesday, March 26. U of T Giving Day is a University-wide fundraising campaign aimed at promoting inclusive excellence and enriching the student experience. From now until midnight on March 26, donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to a maximum of $1,000 per gift while matching funds last.

Vito plans to support Victoria College this Giving Day. “I deeply admire Vic’s commitment to creating an inclusive, equitable and accessible learning environment where every student is empowered to thrive,” he says. “I also see it as a learning opportunity for myself to experience the perspective of participating in the Vic community at a completely different time in my life. Giving isn’t just about supporting a cause—it’s about being part of the story, and I’m thrilled to play a role in the vibrant tale of Vic’s impact and success.”

Don’t miss out this Giving Day—please join Vito and be part of the story. Make your gift now to Vic!
